Hurricanes and the pacific ocean
Today I learned that the word Hurricane does not only describe storms in the Atlantic ocean, but also storms on the east side of the Pacific ocean (the area between the International Date Line and the North American continent).
I came across it, due to the recent news about Hurricane “Douglas” and that it’s hitting Hawaii soon. My previous understanding was: Hurricane is a storm in the Atlantic ocean, while Typhoon is the name of a storm in the Pacific and Indian ocean. Being the know-it-all that I am, I was shaking my heads about a news report talking about a Hurricane in the Pacific ocean. After another report was stating the same, I decided to double-check my knowledge and here we are. I’m writing this article because I was wrong.
